The grapes used to make Pià de la Tesa Botticino DOC are Barbera 35%, Sangiovese 35% and Marzemino 20%, plus 10% Schiava Gentile, as required by the production regulations. The vineyard sits high in the hills (about 400 metres above sea level) of Botticino, in the centre of the area’s natural amphitheatre, where the terrain and the specific microclimate create an ideal environment for growing vines.
One of this vineyard’s key characteristics is its south-eastern exposure. As it faces the mouth of the amphitheatre, the vines receive day-long sunshine.
View more informationThe terrain of the Pià de la Tesa vineyard is marly clay, and it is surrounded by the ”Botticino Classico” quarries; in fact, in this vineyard, below about 40-50 cm of clay soil, the roots of the vines rest upon and dig into the famous marble itself. This means that they absorb large quantities of minerals, reflected in the wine’s sapidity.
Harvesting takes place in early October, selecting the choicest grapes, which are then gently destemmed.
The grapes are then transferred for fermentation in vats at controlled temperature for 10 days, during which gentle pigéage and rémontage are carried out.
Malolactic fermentation takes place in old oak casks of 10 hectolitres, in which the wine is aged for about 18 months. After bottling, ageing in the bottle lasts for 6 months.
This wine is also suitable for laying down. When drunk after 10 or 15 years of additional ageing, it achieves a perfect, smooth balance, with tertiary notes prevailing.

Noventa
Noventa is the home of BOTTICINO DOC, a blend of native Italian grape varieties. They mainly use Barbera and Sangiovese, with a little Marzemino and a little Schiava Gentile. The Botticino land is an amphitheatre of hills arranged in the form of a horseshoe, open towards the south.
