Pfitscher

The Pfitschers family are a bit like their wines: different in character but always honest and genuine. Three generations live, work and make wine together in Montagna (Trentino South Tyrol) since 1861. Today their wines still represent the sheer power of the grapes, from Pinot Nero to Gewürztraminer.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

The Pfitscher Family

Dad Klaus is the cellar master, blue-aproned fox in the vineyard, grape whisperer. Mum Monika lead the admin area and office. Their three sons, Daniel Hannes and Marion work in the cellar and marketing area. And least but not last the Grandad Alfred, the grape expert.

A beautiful winery

Simple shapes and a predominantly black colour scheme ensure that these leading actors are never out of sight. Through its enormous window facade, the tasting room offers breath-taking views of the South Tyrolean lowlands and the surrounding mountains.

Pfitscher

Tradition since 1861

That’s over 150 years, during which both their wine and philosophy have undergone major development. In the past, wine had to meet a different set of requirements to today. Dad Klaus, understood this as far back as 40 years ago, which is why he decided to focus on making more challenging wines and producing the highest possible quality.

Real Handwork

Winemaking at Pfitscher is most definitely no bed of roses. With gradients of around 45% and climatic conditions that can prove difficult, the work is never done. There is no wonderful machinery to help with any of work around the vineyards. The steeper the incline, the harder the work, but perhaps also the better the wine.
