The grapes are sourced from six hectares of specialised vineyards of which 5.5 are DOGC Chianti Classico. The remaining 6 hectares are rented out to a fellow winery, but the whole production is still done in Petroio. The Estate has been a member of the Consorzio del Chianti Classico since 1927, the year of its founding.
The vine density also varies according to the age of the vineyards. In the older vineyards there are about 3000 plants per hectare, while in the younger ones there are up to about 6000 plants per hectare. Only the best selections of the Estate’s production are bottled under the Petroio label. On an average per year about 45.000 bottles of wine are produced, of which 36,000 are Chianti Classico, 5,000 are Poggio al Mandorlo and 4,000 are Chianti Classico Riserva.
