Valtellina Superiore DOCG from Sassella sub zone. This vineyard belonging to the Rigamonti family is located on the hill named “La Spia” between 350 and 400 metres above sea level facing South/South-East. More than one hectare of “terraced garden” cultivated with vines perched on the living rock.
The soils are sandy, silty and rich in organic substance.
The vines, more than 50 years old, are perfectly well-balanced (reduced yield/crop, increased grape quality) with a planting density of about 4000 vines per hectare. The yield is limited to 55-60 quintals per hectare.
View more informationThroughout the year temperatures did not stray far from normal; rainfall values were below-average in winter but abundant in spring and summer. As a result the quantity of grapes harvested was inferior to the average.

Grapes were harvested manually in October, a bit later with respect to last vintages. They were vinified traditionally in fermentation vats at a controlled temperature (24-28°C) for eight days. The new wine was placed in stainless steel vats for six months and subsequently in French oak barrels for 30 months. Then the wine aged in bottle for further 24 months.
This wine is ruby red colour, it has a rich, fruity aroma, velvety on the palate, appealing and elegant with light balsamic notes. It has great ageing potential.
