Valtellina Superiore DOCG from Inferno (60%) and Sassella (40%) sub zones. Well drained , shallow sandy and silty soils with sub-acid pH. The vineyard is located on steep terraces, between 350 and 500 metres above sea level facing South. The vines, more than 50 years old, are perfectly well-balanced (reduced yield/crop, increased grape quality) with a planting density of 3500/4000 vines per hectare. The yield is limited to 65 quintals per hectare.
The 2008 wine harvest season featured several anomalies, including above average rainfall and late vegetative budding. These factors severely affected the vineyard’s production in terms of yield/crop, leading to an especially careful selection of the grapes with a positive result on the wine production.
View more informationGrapes were harvested manually in the second part of October. They were vinified traditionally in fermentation vats at a controlled temperature (24 -28°C) for eight days. The new wine was placed in French oak barrels for 48 months and subsequently in stainless steel vats for 18 months. Then the wine aged in bottle for further 24 months.
Garnet red colour, intense aroma with notes of dried flowers (violet, bush rose) and small red fruits, delicately spicy. A dry, warm and full-flavoured palate. It has great ageing potential.
